Converting Leads into a Contact

Updated on

When someone signs up for our emails or is added to an acquisition list, they are considered a Lead. They stay a Lead until they take an action like making a donation, signing up to volunteer, or attending an event. At that point, we need to convert them into a Contact.

This article will explain how to convert a Lead into a Contact.

From the Lead Record

1. Click Convert.

Lead Already Has a Contact Record

At times, the individual may have already made the donation, started volunteering, registered for an event. These actions automatically create Contact Records for the individual. We then need to convert the Lead to a Contact Record so we can see the full journey a donor or volunteer has taken.

2. Select the Contact to convert the Lead to.

3. Click Convert.

The Lead has been Converted and Combined with the correct Contact Record.

Lead Does Not Yet Have a Contact Record

At times, through Prospecting or other means, we may determine a Lead would be a good fit for a High Engagement, Volunteer Relationship Manager, or Foundations caseload. When this occurs, we need to convert the Lead to a Contact Record.

2. Select Create New for Contact.

3. Click Convert.

The Lead has been Converted into a Contact!
