At times, a family member or someone close to a donor or volunteer will let us know that the individual has passed away and request that we stop sending communications. When this happens, its important to update their record in Salesforce to mark them as deceased. This ensures our records are accurate and helps us respond with sensitivity and respect.
This article describes how to mark a donor or volunteer as deceased.
From the Donor or Volunteer's Contact Page
1. Scroll down to Communication Preferences.
2. Click the Pencil icon by Deceased.
3. Check the box by Deceased.
4. Click Save.
The donor or volunteer is now marked as deceased in Salesforce. They are now automatically opted out of all communication.
We need to inform the family or individual who requested the update that it may take up to 90 days for mail to stop completely, as some items are sent to print and mail in advance.
